Small Acts Can Save Lives – Navy Observes Suicide Prevention Month

WASHINGTON (NNS) — While September is Suicide Prevention Month, subject matter experts from the 21st Century Sailor Office’s Suicide Prevention Office, OPNAV N171, say their goal isn’t to prevent suicide on just a single day or month, but every day of the year.trumpeter-569862_1280

Veteran Outreach & Compatriot Presentations

We are very excited to announce the launch of the US Vets Inc Compatriot Program. Four Wednesdays during the month of September, we will be holding Veteran Outreach & Compatriot Presentations. These presentations will discuss the Compatriot Program which was designed to create a network for veterans to meet other veterans in comradery. The presentations are not only an opportunity to learn about the program but will also include a variety of speakers, and topics relevant to education, employment, and reintegration. Ga. man reunited with brother’s Purple Heart

Many people wouldn’t have done what Justin Chad Davis did.

While cleaning out a shed at an Atlanta home, Davis came across a box full of family heirlooms, including a Purple Heart, an award given to American military members who are wounded or killed in combat.

“Some people, when they find a Purple Heart, just discard it,” said Zachariah L. Fike, a captain in the Vermont National Guard and CEO of Purple Hearts Reunited. “Some people sell them. There’s a large collectors’ market for them.” [Read more…]
