George E. Prokos Veteran Education Fund

The George E. Prokos Veteran Education Fund

A Vietnam veteran (Air Force) and Co-Founder of United States Vets, Inc., George believed in lifelong learning. This carries on his legacy of advocacy for lifelong learning.

In 2016, United States Vets, Inc. initiated a fund to assist military veterans pursuing higher education. Five thousand dollars will be granted to one veteran each year towards their educational pursuits.

Why should you get involved?

The veterans put their lives on line to protect our freedoms everyday. Offering a helping hand is the least we could do in return.

Veterans, with their spectacular skills and tools, contribute so much to our society. Hard-working, skilled and educated veterans are valuable resources to our Toledo communities. Your contribution will empower these brave men and women to enhance their quality of life leading to healthy and successful communities in Toledo.

Organizations, businesses and individuals are welcome to participate in our many functions to help assist vets and keep our resource and referral page alive, offering outstanding resources and referrals to all veterans.

How does the fund work?

Chris Cremean, Secretary/Treasurer and co-founder of United States Vets Inc., presents Nathan Gembreska with a check as the 2019 Educational Fund Awardee.

Your donation to the George E. Prokos Veteran Education Fund supports

collegiate veterans. The 2019 Recipient is Nathan Gembreska. Nathan is a United States Marine Corps veteran. He served from October 2013 to October 2017 in Okinawa, Japan with the III Marine Expeditionary Force Band. He is currently enrolled at the University of Toledo as a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry Major with a pre-medicine concentration. His goal is to become an emergency room doctor.

Nathan states, “I wouldn’t be nearly this dedicated if it weren’t for my time in the United States Marine Corps. I often must thank the military for everything that I have become today. Semper Fidelis.”

This year’s campaign is full swing with fundraisers and events. Our goal is to collect $5000 through generous donations from the community to make a veteran’s collegiate dream possible. We can’t do this without you!

No other veteran organization in the Toledo area has this generous program to help reach your education goals and aspirations.
