Networking and Your Job Search

It is estimated that at least 80% of jobs are found through networking. The old adage, “It’s not what you know, but who you know,” holds true in the job search. Of course, your skills and experience are what will ultimately land you the job, but your networking efforts will open the doors to opportunities.

It’s important to include both formal and informal networking in your job search process. Formal networking is taking a direct approach in asking for job leads and referrals, and attending professional networking events such as association meetings, industry conferences, or business social events. Showing Your Support with the Compatriot Program

Within the gamut of issues that face the veteran is isolation whether it be the lack of resources, awareness of programs or limited means. Like many mentoring programs and finding one specifically for the veteran may take some research. The United States Vets Inc. Compatriot Program strives to build the bridge between vets, families and friends. The human need to connect should never be underestimated. With a simple phone call to say “hello” or maybe an evening out bowling or sharing a cup of coffee with another vet mother, you could make a huge difference in a veteran’s life. [Read more…]

Outstanding Employment Seminar & Job Fair

On May 9th, the Veterans Employment seminar brought together industry experts in the employment fields and entrepreneurship. The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library West Branch hosted the seminar. Speakers offered ideas and insights and addressed the veterans’ questions and concerns.

Over 30 veterans in search of employment attended the first United States Vets Inc. Job Fair on May 20th ay the Main Branch of the Toledo Public Library. Thirteen Toledo employers in various fields reached out to the veteran community and presented hiring opportunities. Each company present was initially approached by us regarding their veteran hiring programs and policies. [Read more…]
