Within the gamut of issues that face the veteran is isolation whether it be the lack of resources, awareness of programs or limited means. Like many mentoring programs and finding one specifically for the veteran may take some research. The United States Vets Inc. Compatriot Program strives to build the bridge between vets, families and friends. The human need to connect should never be underestimated. Outstanding Employment Seminar & Job Fair
On May 9th, the Veterans Employment seminar brought together industry experts in the employment fields and entrepreneurship. The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library West Branch hosted the seminar. Speakers offered ideas and insights and addressed the veterans’ questions and concerns.
Over 30 veterans in search of employment attended the first United States Vets Inc. Job Fair on May 20th ay the Main Branch of the Toledo Public Library. Thirteen Toledo employers in various fields reached out to the veteran community and presented hiring opportunities. In fact, a 2011 study from the Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Advocacy reported that veterans are about 45 percent more likely to become entrepreneurs than people with no active-duty military experience. The most recent U.S. Census data from 2007 showed veterans owned about 2.4 million businesses that generated $1.2 trillion in receipts and employed 5.8 million people, proving that veterans make their mark on America long after their military service has ended.
