George E. Prokos Veteran Education Fund

The George E. Prokos Veteran Education Fund

A Vietnam veteran (Air Force) and Co-Founder of United States Vets, Inc., George believed in lifelong learning. This carries on his legacy of advocacy for lifelong learning.

In 2016, United States Vets, Inc. initiated a fund to assist military veterans pursuing higher education. Funds will be granted to one veteran each year towards their educational pursuits.

Why should you get involved?

The veterans put their lives on line to protect our freedoms everyday. Offering a helping hand is the least we could do in return.

Veterans, with their spectacular skills and tools, contribute so much to our society. Hard-working, skilled and educated veterans are valuable resources to our Toledo communities. Your contribution will empower these brave men and women to enhance their quality of life leading to healthy and successful communities in Toledo.

Organizations, businesses and individuals are welcome to participate in our many functions to help assist vets and keep our resource and referral page alive, offering outstanding resources and referrals to all veterans.

How does the fund work?

United States Vets, Inc. has established an Educational Needs Fund to support Veterans in pursuit of a higher educational degree. The funds are to assist the veteran with living expenses so that they can continue with their education.

Applicants need to:

  • Have an honorable discharge;
  • Submit a copy of DD214 form and/or other form of military ID and
  • Proof of current enrollment.
  • The veteran must submit an Essay of at least two pages, double-spaced and address the topic,

“How can Veterans achieve their highest potential in life”.

Submissions must be mailed to: Mr. Chris Cremean, 6117 908 Eagle Ridge Trail Temperance, MI 48182 by September 30. All requests for funding will be reviewed by the United States Vets, Inc. Board of Directors at their December meeting. The Executive Director will notify the recipient of the Board of Director’s decision and coordinate distribution of the funds.
