Vets and Colleges Making The Connection

October 10, 2015 By United States Vets

Three engaging speakers shared their wisdom and insight with Toledo veterans on October 3rd at the Toledo flag-capLucas Main Library for Veterans Higher Education Seminar. The seminar, specially formatted for veterans in or considering higher education, were in attendance and informed about recent changes in the vet applications, new programs and hot fields of study.

Lt. Haraz Ghanbari, USNR, Director of Military & Veteran Affairs, University of Toledo Veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), Veteran of Operation Joint Forge (Bosnia) discussed the atmosphere of the veteran in the collegiate world and offered enlightening clues in the application process; David Rice, Assistant Director of Admissions, Bowling Green University, presented some of the important fields of study and career choices; and Gary Thompson, Executive VP-COO of the Regional Growth Partnership and Director of JobsOhio Northwest Ohio Region embraced the attention of the attendees with the regional growth plan in the Glass City and how veterans play an important role not only in their personal growth but in the growth of the city as well. Nancy Smith of Spring Arbor University also gave an impromptu presentation about their rapidly growing veterans programs.

The attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and speak one-on-one with the speakers and took home information for review. Attendees included vets seeking master’s degrees as well as new prospecting college students.

Many thanks to our speakers, our veteran attendees and friends, and David Topoleski from the Toledo Lucas County Main Library for their continuing support and commitment to the veterans of Toledo.
